LESSON 2 · GOAL

Whose reasoning is correct?

Some people say something must be true. Test them by trying to build a case where the facts are true but they’re wrong.

BY THE END

You’ll be able to tell a ‘must’ from a ‘might’, and prove a claim wrong with a counter-example.

ACTIVITY 1 · BUILD IT

Can you prove Mia wrong?

Move Pip around. Keep both facts true. If Mia’s claim turns false, you’ve built a counter-example.

THE FACTS
  • ✓Every dog in the show wears a ribbon.
  • ✓Pip wears a ribbon.
WHAT THEY SAY
  • Mia: ‘So Pip must be in the show.’Still true here
  • Tom: ‘Pip might not be in the show.’Not shown yet
